Data Versions

On the Orbit Data Versions page, you can create data versions from a source orbit scenario or from an existing data version. You can also archive a data version (and check the View Archived checkbox to only view archived data versions), and Delete a data version.




  1. Click the +Add New button to launch the Add Data Version drawer. 





  1. If you choose to create a Data Version from an Orbit Source (Official or Sandbox), you will be given the option to select a Group.








  1. If you choose to create a Data Version sourced from another Data Version, you will not have the option to select a Group.
  2. Click Save to create the new Data Version.





Creating, archiving, restoring, and deleting

Creating, archiving, restoring, and deleting a Data Version, available by right-clicking an entry in Manage Data Versions, requires one of the following roles:
  1. Administrator / Owner
  2. Data Version Manager
  3. Input Data Reader
  4. Input Data Writer
Any user holding one of the four roles above can perform the full set of Data Version lifecycle actions: create, archive, restore, and delete.

Tenants that haven't granted any of these roles beyond Administrator see no change in behavior, Administrator continues to have full access as before.

You can archive Orbit Data Versions by right-clicking the data version and selecting Archive from the menu. The data version will not show up in the list until the View Archived check box is checked. To view the data version in the list again, check the View Archived checkbox, then right-click the data version and click restore.














Static Safety Stock in Data Versions

Safety stock data versions work the same way regardless of whether the underlying policy is static (single-echelon, non-time-phased) or time-phased. Publishing either type of policy produces a populated data version for that stock, visible and manageable in the same Data Versions screen used for everything else.







A stock using a static safety stock policy shows real values in its Data Version row, the same fields you'd see for a time-phased stock: Min Quantity, Max Quantity, Safety Stock, Reorder Point, Reorder Frequency, Reorder Quantity, and Supply Buffer.






Mixed Populations

A single data version can contain a mix of static and time-phased stocks. Both show up, side by side, in the same grid.

Managing the Data Version

Static safety stock data versions use the same lifecycle actions as any other data version, no separate workflow:
  1. Activate
  2. Archive
  3. Copy
  4. Export

Where the Values Go

Once published, static safety stock values reach the supply engines (DRP/LP) and the Planning Worksheet the same way time-phased values do. No additional configuration is needed to make static values available as planning input.


Can run LP and DRP on a business scenario using a data version

Material flow input data generation uses the correct source table based on data version configuration when running LP. DRP input data generation uses the correct source tables based on data version configuration when running DRP.
